Saint Barthélemy -lux og privacy, er det dig ?

Saint Barthélemy (også kendt under forkortelserne Saint Barts på engelsk og Saint Barth på fransk) er en lille ø i Caribien. Fra 2007 udgør den en fransk oversøisk kollektivitet. Før dette var den del af det oversøiske departementet Guadeloupe. På øen bor der cirka 6.800 mennesker, og det officielle sprog er fransk. St. Barths er kun 10 km lang og knap 4 km på det bredeste sted, i alt cirka 25 km² i størrelse.
Denne lille ø var Sveriges sidste koloni. Kong Gustav III af Sverige byttede sig til den fra Frankrig i 1784. Næsten hundrede år senere, i 1878 solgte svenskerne den tilbage til franskmændene, men den dag i dag findes der mange spor fra svensketiden. Hovedstaden på øen er Gustavia, som blev opkaldt efter Gustav III.

Hvorfor lige St. Barts ?

Man tager et stykke vulkan ø i Caribien, strør øen med hvide strande som sukker på en Amagermad og lader det ligge i millioner af år. Så kommer der endelig nogle eventyrlystne svenskere forbi, der sælger til nogle franskmænd og tingene tager fart, men først meget senere. Flere hundrede år efter tilsættes så lækre hoteller, cottages, verdensklasse franske restauranter og en sofistikeret livsstil med de kendte og de mindre kendte. Plads til alle. Relaxation of the fabulous beaches is a principal activity in Saint Barts. With average temperatures of 80°F, with peaks at 95°F and rarely less than 68°F, the island is the perfect sun-filled destination, especially during the cold winter months in the US or Europe. Superb beaches call for lazy days in the shade of the coconut palms.

Those who want to be more active can find plenty to do as well. The warm waters call for diving, deep-sea fishing, wind surfing, surfing, sailing or motorboat excursions, jet skis, kite surf…

St Barts is also known for its fine dining. The diversity of its restaurants allows you to try a large variety of culinary styles, from traditional French to a more West Indian flavor.

St Barts is also a paradise for luxury goods in a multitude of small boutiques. Many major brands are represented.
