Hong Kong er meget mere end imponerende skyscrapers og vertical livsstil i elevatortempo. Der er flere hundrede øer og en af de større grønne er Lantau Island.

Småt dennegang og lækkertmed 9 værelser beliggende på Tai O (大澳) på den bestlige side af LAntau Island It also known as the “Oriental Venice”, and is the only in tact fishing village that remains in Hong Kong. It is inhabited mainly by the Tanka (蜑家) people, descendants of Hong Kong’s first settlers.

Currently the fishing lifestyle is dying out. While many residents continue to fish, it barely provides a subsistence income. There is a public school on the island and most young people move away when they come of age. In 2000 a large fire broke out destroying many residences. However, the village is now mostly squatters huts and dilapidated stilt houses. The pang uks (棚屋), a kind of stilt house, built right over the waterway are still quite scenic.
