Øresundsbron - shortcut to travel adventures in Denmark and Sweden
The Øresund Bridge provides shopping, the nature of the neighboring country and visits to family / friends, Ski, golf holiday, camping, wellness, as well as culture from concerts to museums, as the main purpose of trips across the Øresund Bridge, shows a YouGov survey among 537 Danish and 512 Swedish BroPas customers in Zealand and southern Sweden. Just over 10 per cent of respondents always or often visit new places on the other side of the bridge, while about half always or often visit the same places. And the exchange rate has a great influence on Swedes' travels.
How do Swedes and Danes use the Øresund Bridge 20 years after
- The Øresund Bridge has now linked Denmark and Sweden together for almost 20 years, and leisure travel has grown significantly over the years. Prior to the anniversary, we are now taking the pulse of our leisure customers to get a clue as to what they are doing on the other hand, whether there are language barriers and to look at the significance of exchange rates, says John Alexander Sahlin, communications officer at the Øresund Bridge, about the study that presented at the XNUMXth anniversary of the Øresund Bridge Business Meeting in Copenhagen. Then you have to shop through in Malmö
Shopping is the most common main purpose behind the latest Swedish and Danish leisure customers' recent trip across the bridge. Almost every three Danes state shopping as their main purpose, while four out of ten Swedes answer the same. Among those who shop, food is the most widespread content in the shopping bags - half of Swedish shoppers respond to food, while the corresponding proportion is 62 percent among Danes. In addition, 57 percent of Danes buy clothes, while this proportion is only about one-third among Swedes.
Danes rate Swedish nature very highly
Swedish nature ranks high when Danes list the importance of the various factors for visiting Sweden – 42 percent believe that nature is crucial or important for visits to Sweden in the past year. However, only 22 percent of Swedes say the same about the importance of nature for a trip to Denmark. Almost half of both Swedish and Danish BroPas customers say that they often or almost always/always visit the same places. Age is of great importance for whether the trip goes to central Copenhagen or Malmö or to other places. In general, just over half of travelers visit the big cities. The mature age groups seek the trip outside Copenhagen and Malmö
In the age group 18 to 34 years, over eight out of ten people visit central Malmö or Copenhagen. However, among people over 50, there is a clear majority if the trip ends outside the metropolis. Just over ten percent of Danes and Swedes surveyed always visit or often visit new places. So even though the bridge has been around for a long time, for those who want, there is still opportunity for new experiences - both inside and outside the big cities, says John Alexander Sahlin.
What would a strengthened Swedish crown mean for visits to neighboring countries?
According to the study, a strengthened Swedish krona would have a great impact on the Swedes' travel patterns. Almost seven out of ten Swedes (69 per cent) say that they would travel to Denmark much more often, or more often if the Swedish krone was worth as much as the Danish one. Although the exchange rate currently favors many Danes, as the Swedish krona has been at the lowest levels since 2009, a significantly smaller proportion (31 percent) of Danes say that an offset exchange rate difference would have a large or decisive influence on the number of trips.Sweden and Denmark understand each other
And what about the language? Only 14 percent of the Danes surveyed and 12 percent of Swedes experience, to a large or very large extent, challenges with the language on the other side of the bridge. In collaboration with and thanks to the Øresund BridgeRead more about the Øresund BridgeThe trip goes to Sweden
