Barsebäck Golf and Country Club, highest on Danish golfers' list
As early as the 1980s, the legend Jack Nicklaus noted that Barsebäck Golf & Country Club has an extremely good location and high quality. That is still the case today, and you might as well make a note of the name Gösta Carlsson first and last. He is the man behind the facility with two 18-hole courses, a 9-hole short-course, golf academy, 2 restaurants, hotel, cottage village, swimming pool and training studio.
Barsebäck golf course description
The Masters Course is a 'must' experience. Barsebäck has hosted 13 European Tour tournaments, as well as the Solheim Cup in 2003, and has also been visited by stars such as Annika Sörenstam, Nick Faldo and Colin Stuart Montgomerie. The Masters Course is largely framed by tall pine trees, which have been shaped by the wind over the years. Characteristic of the course are parkland and seaside holes, lots of doglegs that create excitement and deep bunkers that are located exactly where they challenge skilled players the most. The quality, design, location and the golfing luminaries who have played on the course all contribute to making Barsebäck legendary.
After a few holes in parkland, a wall of blue sea opens up in front of the player on hole 8, a par 3 hole over water. The player is then brought down to the sea where the links feeling really sets in. Playing along the Øresund, while the reeds sway in the wind, experiencing the deep bunkers and perfect fairways while the clubhouse towers over the landscape and shows the way back – it is a journey in itself.
The Donald Steel Course must also be played – of course
Donald Steel Course is a top supplement to the Masters Course and, like its 'big brother', is considered one of Sweden's very best golf courses. The first 9 holes were laid out in 1980, while the last 9 were added in 1989. Donald Steel Course is varied and offers holes in both parkland and woodland. The design encourages strategic play. The course is shorter than the Masters Course, but in return the player has more alternatives and lines to choose from from tee to green.
Environment and training facilities
There is a very special atmosphere throughout Barsebäck GCC; the golf facility is considered to be the gold standard in Swedish golf courses and Swedish golf history. Every year, more than 25.000 green fee rounds are played on the Masters Course and Donald Steel Course combined. This is apparently a Nordic green fee record.
