Is Livigno too easy as a ski resort?

So it's a myth punctured: Livigno is actually for total beginners with a whole valley full of easy slopes, for Olympic champions and everything in between. In 2018, Livigno was voted the 3rd best snow park in the Alps and number 1 in Italy. In fact, Livigno “claims” the Bressaola and other cold cuts, which are excellent. It and the other charcuterie delicacies and mountain cheeses are world class here. But are these the reasons that drive people back year after year? We don't think so. only it is. There is more to the attraction of the place. Once Livigno, always Livigno.

Livigno makes you feel at home

You will feel at home quickly on your skiing holiday in Livigno. You have two ski areas "for the price of one" in Livigno itself. Namely one on both sides of the valley at an altitude of 1800 meters with each their opportunities and challenges, and also on both sides of the valley there are plenty of good hotels. You can walk from one area to another in approx. 10 minutes or take a ski bus that runs in shuttle service in 2-3 minutes. You have children's ski slopes so it basks, but you also have cool après-ski and a city life that is max cozy. And then there is almost no waiting time at the lifts! When Livigno came to Denmark

Danski should be given the honor of discovering Livigno almost 40 years ago, and has been there ever since, along with Nortlander and Slopetrotters, etc., and it's not without reason! There are the best beginner and children's conditions in Livigno for everyone. On the Carosello side, there are literally kilometers of easy slopes and ski lessons. The slopes are right down by the town. You can take a break, have a cup of coffee, soak up the sun and then continue training 5 minutes later. At the same time, intermediate skiers have very nice terrain with wide, well-groomed slopes, which almost look like a large area without restrictions: you can run all over the place, no narrow slopes and lots of other skiers behind, standing across behind the next tight bend. Full view and change gears! You should expect slightly more difficult slopes the last part from the middle station on the Carosello side. Experienced and very experienced skiers have good opportunities for really good technical training. In fact, right down to the center of town, where you get a lot of leg training in a short time with short, efficient lifts to a bit of forest or hills. We'll take a break and see how Antonio gets through the terrain in style!

Like an Alfa Romeo GT in top gear on an Italian mountain road, not so much gas, but I could if I wanted to 🙂 Really steep slopes like in Avoriaz and humps as in Obergurgl There aren't that many, except just below the lifts on the Carossello side (a little unknown, but try it!), and there are also black runs on the Mottolino side, long, physically demanding runs, not too difficult, but you can run yourself tired there, or just get better at a little more difficult terrain. You can also easily pull into a red run if your thigh muscles are a little sore. And then there's all the off-piste you can dream of. Here you have to be an experienced skier with control on off-piste. Don't play with your health here. There's even a new lift that only picks people up again from the off-piste descent on the Mottolino side. So forget the old prejudices, Livigno has it all.

Livigno also has its own snow park on the Mottolino side of the valley with boxes, rails and jumps. Livigno can be proud to have one of the largest and most sought after snow parks in all of Italy. There have now never really been such really long lift queues in Livigno. This is one of the reasons why many people started choosing a ski holiday in Livigno over other places, but in recent years have produced an even more well-functioning lift system that ensures that everyone gets around the terrain quickly. In 2019/20, you should expect a lift pass costing approx. 1500 kr in the high season. In fact, lift cows are a rare sight in Livigno, partly because in Livigno they continuously invest in their lift system in the Italian way: it can take a couple of years or 10, but then it also comes when everyone agrees on "no time" . It has to that extent happened now. The lifts get a clear 12 number!

Sometimes completely still because the wind picked up and we didn't dare to ride, we would sway a little or a lot from side to side. Not optimal. Now it takes a good 10 minutes to the top of Carosello, and the capacity of the super modern gondola lifts is 6 people in each gondola, so all in all it goes more than twice as fast as before with the old lift, which was built in 1985 and also accommodated 6 people, and has now been demolished. Getting to Livigno in Italy is not easy. You have to go through Germany, Austria, Switzerland and maybe by car train through a tunnel in Switzerland. But many of us have done it, and here are a few good tips for the car trip. You can take the car train the last stretch. If you are coming from Switzerland, it is the only option. If you want to drive all the way, you have to go through the Munt La Schera tunnel. The times when guests can drive in and out of the town through the tunnel are strictly controlled every Saturday throughout the ski season. It works like this:Tunnel opening hours when entering IND Livigno The tunnel is closed on Saturdays throughout the ski season from 06:00 - 10:00 when you enter the city. Here, in turn, is open to guests who want to go home, which they want out of town first! This means that you need to make sure you arrive either very early or after 10:00.Tunnel opening hours when you HOME The tunnel is OPEN on Saturdays throughout the ski season from 06:00 – 10:00 and again after 18:00 for guests returning from the city. The northernmost roundabout is closed from 09:00. Please note that they close the tunnel after 10:00 and until 18:00. Until 06:00 and after 18:00, traffic is regulated by traffic lights. Remember to check the tunnel's opening hours yourself, we reserve the right to make errors and changes due to wind and weather in the above.

The cool ski tip for Livigno

Here's the cool tip: Buy a 7-day ski pass and ski all Saturday almost alone in the entire area. And then you leave just after 22:00 PM, the last car train in Switzerland is at about 22:20 PM, but check the itinerary that you have to take to avoid a mega hard mountain pass trip. The last departure with the mountain train does not leave until 18:20 PM, (but check online before departure!) so there is plenty of time. It takes about 45 minutes to drive into Switzerland to the car train, mind you, without a queue out of Livigno and it is always in the morning on Saturdays, so it is also ugly. You drive on board, stay in the car and 18 minutes later you are far inside Switzerland, and have saved over 100 km and over an hour's drive, so that's the solution, delivered for free here on the site 🙂 And it applies both ways.
