Beijing is the capital of the world's most populous country. The city is huge with just over 22 million inhabitants, but is surpassed by Shanghai with its over 25 million inhabitants. In third place in size comes Guangzhou.Beijing's history goes back 3000 years and includes both the Ming and Qing dynasties and their many emperors in a colorful and dramatic history. The city is rich in historical and cultural monuments and houses a number of important institutions such as government and ministries.
Beijing's layout
Beijing is characterized by a completely flat landscape and a very dry climate. Rain is not what you notice the most. There are only 3 hills within the urban zone, but there are mountains on the horizon seen towards no less than 3 corners of the world. The city is, like the construction of the Forbidden City in Beijing, concentric. That is, still planned as ever-larger circles with the same center, which forms the geometry of the city, among other things with ring roads that go around Beijing and at the same time make it easy to navigate, at least in general terms. On the other side of the ring roads you will find part of the gigantic Great Wall of China, which is recognized as one of the 7 modern wonders of the world. Beijing, as you may remember, hosted the Olympics in 2008 and will also host the next Winter Games in 2022.
